One year after his election, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert spoke about his intention to continue regular meetings with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
“I do want to have a link to the Palestinians. I do want to talk with Palestinians. I don’t want to get stuck in a corner and be lost forever. This is not the interest of Israel. We are interested in moving forward.
"We don’t need reminders that it is in the interest of Israel that things improve with the Palestinians. It’s my interest. It is my interest, however, subject to very strict definitions of what we do; what time frame we set for it; what are the phases; and basically this is according to the road map.
