Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said during a Kadima Party conference in Jerusalem, August 8, 2007:

“I believe that we can expect a calm summer, a calm autumn and a calm winter, naturally, we are dealing with strengthening the Israel Defense Forces’ capabilities…but we have no plans, no will, and no interest in a confrontation in the north of the country or in the south. I believe that the Syrians also have no interest in fighting us, there is always an exaggeration in creating an atmosphere of tension, but a responsible leadership knows how to control itself, exercise self-restraint and maintain its equanimity."
