Earlier this week, a peaceful demonstration by Palestinians at the Beddawi refugee camp turned into a violent protest. Although the battle between Fatah al-Islam and the Lebanese army ended over a month ago and the Palestinian refugees who fled Nahr al-Bared are gradually returning to what remains of their homes, a large number of refugees are still dwelling in Beddawi schools. While this posed little problem over the summer, now that the school year has started, the displaced are effectively displacing Beddawi’s students from their classrooms.
