The four-member committee of representatives of rival Maronite leaders reached an understanding on Tuesday that all parties in Lebanon would remain committed to democratic means of resolving political problems and would not to resort to violence. The committee also stressed that the qualities of the next president should match those called for by Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Butros Sfeir and by the Council of Maronite Bishops.
The third committee meeting was held after several surprise bilateral encounters between Christian leaders from both camps, the latest of which occurred late Monday night between Change and Reform Bloc leader MP Michel Aoun and March 14 MP Samir Franjieh.
