Marwan Muasher, author, The Arab Center: The Promise of Moderation, former Jordanian ambassador to the United States, interview with Tavis Smiley, June 26, 2008:
"[T]he framework of a solution is already in place. … [T]oday we’re in search of the political will to make that solution happen, and this is something that I believe the United States, in coordination with the international community, can play a very positive role in. … [W]hat Secretary Rice has done is commendable. … [However,] she should have done it earlier. … If there’s any advice that I would suggest to the new incoming administration, it is that they should take on the Arab- Israeli conflict in the first term and try to bring about a solution. … Other than the United States, there is no power that can make it happen, because the United States is the only superpower that Israel trusts, because the United States is the only superpower that is able to guarantee a solution for all parties. And therefore, all parties are looking to the United States to help bring that about."
