“The Palestinian Authority and Hamas have irreconcilable political programs that preclude a negotiated resolution of their differences in the near future. In addition, Hamas will not countenance giving up its security control over Gaza. Negotiations between the PA and the Israelis, as well as the reconstruction of the Palestinian security system, economic development and sound governance should not be held in abeyance till Gaza and the West Bank are reunited. Ultimately, the Palestinian people must make their political choices when they are given the next chance to vote.” —Dr. Ziad Asali, president & founder, American Task Force on Palestine.
